What Does a Chief Logistics Officer Do?

It is the job of the Chief Logistic officer to manage the transfer of the goods or the services of a company in order to facilitate smooth business operations. Logistics employment opportunities entail the formulation of a strategy by which a sufficient stock of inventory, vendors and staff can be kept to ensure the production of goods in appropriate numbers and their eventual delivery to the customers.

What can you expect from logistics careers?

Logistics careers include planning, control of goods, implementation and the transport of goods from the manufacturing point to the consumers. So an opportunity in logistics employment will require you to take care of the outbound and inbound transportation of goods, warehousing of these items, raw material handling, fleet management and order fulfillment.

People in logistics careers are expected to be involved in various levels of planning including the formation of strategies to ensure the unhindered flow of products from the manufacturer to the end users. You will be responsible for the operations and the application of these strategies. The work of the logistics department can have a direct bearing on several business functions such as manufacturing, finance, marketing, information technology and sales.

What will be your functions as a logistics Professional?

If you secure employment as a chief logistics officer then you will be required to ensure the appropriate management of all the logistics requirement of the company. You will be responsible for development and the implementation of logistics support plans. So your duties will include forecasting the requirement for raw material, planning the supply schedules and taking care of any operational issues that might have to be confronted during transfer of goods.

A chief logistics officer is essentially the primary liaisons between the manufacturer, the suppliers and the retailers. As a logistic executive, you will also be required to advice the senior management about inventory and staffing requirements and any changes that may have to be implemented to ensure that the transfer of goods can be error free. Another integral component of logistics planning would be the purchase and transfer of raw material. In order to hold a portfolio in purchasing along with logistics, you will need to get professional certification such as the CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager Certification). In order to get this certification, you will require a bachelors or an associate degree in business management, logistics or engineering.

Qualification Required for Logistics Employment

If you are interested in a logistics career, you will need a master's degree in business management, logistics, or engineering. To qualify for the position of a logistics executive you need to have at least ten years of experience managing the logistics services of a large operation.

If you have professional certification in transportation and our chasing, it will give you an edge over the other candidates. These certifications can be acquired for the undergraduate level. There are several employment opportunities available for educated and experienced professionals in logistics.

What kind of Pay can you expect?

As a logistics management executive you can expect to make an annual income of $198,000. The average salary for logistics professional was reported as $45,800 per annum.
