Why Export Jobs May be Perfect for You

Some of the newest top jobs are logistics opportunities and logistics positions. These positions involve the transportation pipeline of supplies and products, from beginning to end and the costs, scheduling and delivery of parts to make or provide a finished product.

For example, an export job in logistics might involve providing packaged meals to soldiers in the Middle East. A logistician might be necessary to get the meals from the manufacturer to the government or shipped overseas for deployment by the government. The government is heavily involved with logisticians, but so are retail merchandisers, internet products, and health care field.

The reason export jobs may be perfect for you is that it is becoming a global economy, where many purchasers are located overseas. The United States exports many things, such as grain, for example. Logistics positions might involve the transport by truck or train to a barge, then tracking the barge to its port overseas, and the unloading and transport of the product to where its final destination is overseas. You may be performing all of this tracking, scheduling, paperwork, customs paperwork, payment to carriers and suppliers in your office at home as a transportation broker.

There are licenses you can receive to be bonded and certified as a transportation broker for third party transportation brokering. The courses are offered at 180 hours of study, and then you must pass the test with 70% or more score for certification. There are import/export logistics positions that are also offered through brokerage companies that already carry the bond and may send you through internal courses of study.

This is a new field and one that is growing due to the globalization of the economy here and overseas. China, for example, has become a major exporter and there are many things that the United States and other countries import from China. This is a prime example of top jobs in the logistics or transportation field. Logistics positions where a foreign language is necessary, such as Mandarin Chinese, for example, will pay more than other logistics opportunities in domestic transportation brokerage or logistics.

There are many logistics positions in the health care field, which is a growing field, as well. The supply line in getting from pharmaceutical companies to hospitals, and the documentation, certified transportation bonds and requirements may require proven experience in logistics.

There are many export logistics positions since the birth of the Internet, where a global purchasing and shipping system may be needed to get a product order over the Internet through a third party distributor shipped from the warehouse of the manufacturer, to the purchaser who may be in an overseas country. Because of the Internet, many wholesalers and retailers may be located on different continents, but still carry on business and need product shipped and those transportation routes, product delivery, insurance, scheduling, and customs paperwork must all be handled.

Many times, these exporters will hire a transportation or logistics broker to handle all the paperwork and transportation arrangements in exchange for a fee, which can range up to 10% of the shipment. Logisticians are becoming a rapidly growing occupation with lucrative rewards. Merchandisers, purchasing agents and material handling agents that deal with import, export, domestic transportation, and logistics are other types of jobs in this field.

When you start to realize the size of the global economy and the many cases where a transportation broker or logistician may be needed, then it is easy to understand why this is becoming a growing field. What used to be a domestic issue, such as calling a trucking company, may now become more involved with railway, air, truck, barge, and ship transportation arrangements and heavy customs paperwork involved.

To be a good candidate for top jobs and logistics opportunities, you need to be detail oriented. You need to have a base of contacts, or some background with a transportation broker or company so that you understand the terminology and methods used to schedule pickups and deliveries. You need to know what means of transportation will be the cheapest and more efficient method of getting the supplies or products where they need to be in a timely manner.

The reason export jobs may be perfect for you is that it is a growing field. In export logistics, you are setting up supplies and product to be exported from the United States to another country, so the majority of the work is on the end of getting the product from the United States, outward, which involves less customs paperwork than importing a foreign shipment into the United States. These positions are in high demand, and the majority of them will be brokered through English speaking brokers depending on where the export is going.

The best place to find these kinds of export top jobs and logistics positions is on a website that specializes in logistics, where they have researched and combined all the positions in the field from job search websites, classifieds and Fortune 500 companies. It saves time when it comes to finding and qualifying for a logistics position.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
